Kavya Maran in Pain as SRH Batting Collapse Against KKR During IPL 2024 Qualifier 1

By Puja Roy

Kavya Maran, the co-owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and a favourite among Indian cricket fans, couldn't hide her agony during the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21.

Known for her passionate support and frequent presence at SRH matches, Kavya's reactions throughout the SRH innings were a focal point for both the fans and broadcasters.

SRH, touted as having one of the most formidable batting line-ups in the tournament, fell woefully short, collapsing to 159 all out. The architect of their downfall was KKR's Mitchell Starc, who bowled a sensational spell, taking 3/34, supported by Varun Chakravarthy and others.

The collapse began in the powerplay itself, with Starc claiming three crucial wickets. The camera first caught Kavya's distressed reaction when SRH lost four wickets in the powerplay, including the key dismissals of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. These two, being the top run-scorers for SRH with over 1000 runs between them this IPL, were massive blows.

Despite the early setbacks, SRH showed signs of recovery through a fighting partnership between Rahul Tripathi (55 off 35) and Abdul Samad (16 off 12). At 121/5 in the 14th over, there was a glimmer of hope.

However, a mix-up while attempting a quick single resulted in Tripathi's run-out, brilliantly executed by Andre Russell at point. The camera immediately panned to Kavya Maran, capturing her devastated expression as the last recognised batting pair on the crease was broken.

The SRH batting woes continued as Sanvir Singh, brought in as an impact substitute for Abhishek Sharma, was clean-bowled by Sunil Narine on the very first ball he faced. This time, when the camera sought Kavya Maran's reaction, she was noticeably absent from her seat in the VIP stands.

Her departure suggested frustration and perhaps a desire to avoid further scrutiny from the cameras, which relentlessly captured her every reaction.

Adding to the high-profile nature of the match, Kolkata Knight Riders' celebrity owners, Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan, were also present in the VIP stands, cheering for their team as they aimed for their third IPL title and first in ten years.

Their presence showed the stark contrast in emotions, as KKR's dominant performance left SRH and its supporters, particularly Kavya Maran, in visible despair.
