Aries Kollam Sailers kept their Kerala Cricket League (KCL) semi-final hopes alive with a convincing six-wicket victory over Calicut Globstars in a crucial league encounter.

Chasing 176, Kollam reached the target in just 17.2 overs, with four wickets down and 16 balls still remaining.

KCL 2026 Kollam Sailers Keep Semi-Final Hopes Alive With Six-Wicket Win Over Calicut Globstars

The result has set up a potentially decisive clash between Calicut Globstars and Trivandrum Royals on Thursday. Kollam now have nine points, while Calicut remain on eight. A victory for Calicut against Trivandrum would see them move ahead of Kollam and secure a semi-final berth, while a defeat would open the door for Kollam to advance.

Calicut Recover From Early Collapse

Calicut were put under pressure early after losing their batting mainstay Rohan Kunnummal for just 12. Their troubles deepened when Akhil Scaria and K.S. Aravind were dismissed in the same over by Muhammad Ishaq.

Varun Nayanar also departed as Calicut slipped to 65/4 after 10.3 overs. With the innings in danger of falling apart, Salman Nizar and Abdul Basith joined forces to produce a remarkable recovery.

The pair added 110 runs from only 57 balls, taking Calicut to a competitive 175/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Both batters brought up their half-centuries from 32 deliveries.

Basith remained unbeaten on 62 off 39 balls, hitting one four and six sixes, while Nizar finished unbeaten on 50 from 32 balls, with three fours and three sixes. The duo struck 21 runs in the final over, bowled by Vijay Viswanath. Muhammad Ishaq was the pick of the Kollam bowlers with three wickets.

Ajinas, Vatsal Turn The Game Around

Kollam's chase did not begin smoothly either. Abhishek J. Nair was dismissed in the second over, clean bowled by Ibnul Aftab with a superb inswinger.

Calicut's bowlers maintained disciplined lines and lengths, making it difficult for the Sailers to score freely. Anand Krishnan briefly shifted the momentum by hitting three consecutive boundaries in the sixth over, but he was dismissed in the following over.

Just when Calicut appeared to be taking control, Vatsal Govind and Ajinas changed the complexion of the chase. Ajinas, who had struggled to find his best form earlier in the season, produced his most impactful innings of the campaign, attacking the bowling from the outset.

Vatsal provided valuable support as the pair stitched together a crucial 100-run partnership. Their stand put Kollam firmly in command and brought the target within reach.

Ajinas stayed unbeaten on 64 from 34 balls, smashing five fours and four sixes, while Vatsal contributed 42 before being dismissed. Kollam eventually completed the chase at 179/4 in 17.2 overs to seal a six-wicket victory.

For Calicut, Akhin Sattar claimed two wickets, but it was not enough to prevent Kollam from keeping their semi-final hopes firmly alive.
