Keen contest expected between Dempo, Churchill tomorrow

By Staff

Margao, Nov 4 (UNI) Defending champions Dempo Sports Club and Durand Cup runners-up Churchill Brothers will have their priorites clear when they cross swords in the ONGC I League clash at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda here tomorrow.

Dempo, who fought gallantly before losing by a lone penalty goal to Mohan Bagan in the last match, will hope to bounce back and improve their showing to stay in contention.

Dempo, presently placed seventh with only six points from four outings with two wins and two defeats, need a good midfield combination and more accurate forwards to find the target.

While formidable well knit Churchill Brothers, presently placed second with 11 points from five outings with three wins and two draws below table toppers Sporting Club De Goa with 15 points from six outings, will certainly be going all out to maintain their position and unbeaten streak intact.

Dempo coach Armando Colaco said his main concern is that though his team is playing well, they are not able to convernt their superiority into the goals. He said Medio Roberto Mendes Silva (Beto), who was nursing an injury, might play tomorrow against arch rival Churchill Brothers.

He said Churchill is a high profile team and is really playing good football. Their mercurical forward Odafa Okolie is a dangerous man, who had eight goals to his credit.

He hoped his boys click tomorrow and perform well to emerge winners.

Dempo, spearheaded by Nigerian Striker Renty Martin as usual, will expect their attacking players Mboyo Iyomi and Joaquim Ambraches to come up with a vastly improved showing. Helping the forward line will be Roberto Mendes Silva( Beto), Nascimnto Silveira and Anthony Pereira, thus the striking power of the holders looks fordimable, but it remaines to be seen whether they will be able to translate their advantages into goals.

The confident looking Churchill Brothers manager Denzil Ferrao said, ''The team is in full spirits and boys know that it is a crucial match for us and we will go all out for win to improve points tally. Dempo is a good side but we will try our best to win and earn points.'' He said there will be one change in his team tomorrow, with Medio reisang Vasum playing in place of Genius Zenith.

As both the teams will battle it out for full points, it is going to be an interesting match tomorrow.
