Kemp, Gibbs suffer minor injuries

Port of Spain, Trinidad, Mar 5 (UNI) South Africa's Justin Kemp and Herschelle Gibbs suffered minor injuries while training on the eve of their warm-up game against Ireland.

All-rounder Kemp was hit on the left big toe by fast bowler Charl Langeveldt in the nets, while batsman Gibbs hurt a finger during a fielding drill.

South Africa's team doctor Mohammad Moosajee said both the players had undergone an X-ray examination and come back clear.

''Their injuries are more of a soft tissue and ligament nature, there is no damage to the bone and they shouldn't be affected too much,'' he told reporters.

The pair could sit out today's warm-up tie as a precaution, although both are expected to be back in action soon.

Kemp admitted he initially feared the worst, saying, ''I really thought that was the end of my World Cup.'' South Africa are in Group A and open their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on March 16. Champions Australia and Scotland complete the group UNI
