KKR home Eden Gardens set to make history? Kolkata Stadium to transform after IPL 2024

The iconic Eden Gardens, at the heart of the city Kolkata, may get another opportunity to host an ICC tournament Final in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2026.

'Carlos Brathwaite! Remember the Name,' these famous lines reverberated by Ian Bishop in the 2016 T20 World Cup Final at the stadium may get a new subject but we may witness the same thrill as BCCI is planning to bid Kolkata as the city to host the Final for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

KKR home Eden Gardens

According to reports in Kolkata, Eden Gardens will undergo renovation soon as BCCI plans the City of Joy to be the destination for the Final if they get it. The iconic ground will be dressed into a better version with greater facilities and a bolder look.

If Eden Gardens host the final in 2026, it will be the third World Cup final played at the venue. Previously, the 2016 T20 World Cup Final was played here and the 1987 World Cup Final was also played at the same venue.

The projected revamp may well be initiated as soon as the IPL 2024 ends and that may mean Eden Gardens not hosting any India matches in the 2024 calendar year. The stadium hosted five World Cup matches this year which also included the semifinal between Australia and South Africa.

India also played their match against South Africa in Kolkata and Virat Kohli scored his record-equaling 49th ODI century in the match.

Eden Gardens to host KKR in IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders will play at the Eden Gardens in the IPL 2024. The Knights have struggled in the last two seasons and will hope for a better outing this year. This will be the 13th season for KKR at the Eden Gardens and it is to be seen if they lift their third title in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
