KKR IPL 2027 Release List: How Kolkata Knight Riders can Free Up Rs 60 Crore Purse Auction with Five Releases
Kolkata Knight Riders have had a couple of torrid IPL seasons since their victorious campaign in IPL 2024. Shreyas Iyer led the KKR to their third IPL glory, and it promised a new dynasty.
But much to their disappointment, things have gone from bad to worse for them. After Iyer was not retained in the IPL 2025 mega auction, KKR brought in Ajinkya Rahane as captain, under whom the results have not been up to the mark. And with Rahane's retirement ahead of IPL 2027, the jigsaw has become more complex for them.

KKR spent big last time, but the signings proved to be fruitless. The big money buys were mostly underwhelming, and as the IPL 2027 mini auction approaches, KKR may have to look for solutions. With a few top names up for grabs, here's how Kolkata can free up a big amount again ahead of the auction.
KKR IPL 2027 Auction: ₹60 crore for 5 Players
The Knight Riders can have a fat purse of around Rs 60 crore in the auction if they release these five players.
Cameron Green (₹25.20 crore)
The Australian all-rounder entered the setup carrying the weight of a staggering ₹25.20 crore price tag, making him one of the most expensive players in league history. While Green proved his utility by compiling 322 runs and taking 7 wickets in the 2026 season, the sheer size of his contract severely restricts KKR's auction flexibility. Committing more than ₹25 crore to a single overseas slot leaves very little room to assemble deep domestic bench strength. Unless KKR views Green as their absolute long-term anchor, releasing him back into the auction pool gives them the immediate financial muscle needed to target multiple specialist roles without exhausting their budget on one player.
Matheesha Pathirana (₹18.00 crore)
Securing Sri Lankan slinger Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore was meant to solve KKR's long-standing death-overs headaches. When fully fit, his toe-crushing yorkers and unorthodox trajectory make him nearly impossible to get away. However, fitness interruptions and patchy availability heavily impacted his effectiveness during his stint. In a league as unforgiving as the IPL, tying up an ₹18 crore overseas spot on a frontline pacer who cannot guarantee consistent appearances throughout a two-month tournament is a massive strategic gamble.
Ramandeep Singh (₹4.00 crore)
Retained at ₹4.00 crore, Ramandeep Singh has been an effective domestic finisher, delivering quick cameos down the order and chipping in with useful medium-pace overs. His power-hitting against both pace and spin provided KKR with vital lower-order balance.
If KKR aims to completely reshape its middle-order dynamic or free up Indian domestic slots for emerging talent, Ramandeep's name could feature in internal discussions, with the possibility of the franchise attempting to buy him back at a more favourable price during the open bidding.
Umran Malik (₹75 lakh)
At a retention price of just ₹75 lakh, Jammu express pacer Umran Malik represents minimal financial liability. His raw, untamed pace remains an asset few Indian fast bowlers possess. But Umran's injury issues and fitness problems made him largely unavailable last season. KKR wouldn't mind freeing up the amount and letting him go.
Tejasvi Dahiya (₹3 crore)
Tejasvi Dahiya was bought for a high price but he just played a couple of matches, failing to make any impact in any of them. KKR may well be inclined to let him go since the Delhi player has failed to do anything significant in recent times. Hence, KKR may look to offload him to free up cash.
KKR will also have the added purse of around Rs 9.20 crore, which they paid for the acquisition of Mustafizur Rahman. And adding this to the purse would take their value up to around Rs 60.20 crore.
