Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been dealt a significant blow ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, as their newly acquired pacer, Anrich Nortje, has been ruled out of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025 due to a recurring back injury.
This development raises concerns about his availability for the IPL as well, with just six weeks away from the start of IPL 2025.

Days after South Africa announced their squad, Nortje had to withdraw himself due to the persistent issue. India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is similarly facing a back problem and his participation for the Champions Trophy is also under the cloud.
Nortje's injury led to his withdrawal from South Africa's Champions Trophy squad, where he has been replaced by 30-year-old fast bowler Corbin Bosch. Bosch made his international debut in December last year and has since played one One Day International (ODI) and one Test match.

The 31-year-old Nortje was a key acquisition for KKR, having been secured for INR 6.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. His unavailability poses a significant challenge for the franchise, which had been counting on his express pace to bolster their bowling attack.
In light of Nortje's injury, KKR may need to explore potential replacements to fill the void left by the South African speedster.
