KKR vs GT: Gujarat Titans Drop Four Catches as KKR Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
Gujarat Titans' five-match winning streak met an unexpected hurdle at Eden Gardens as a disastrous fielding display allowed Kolkata Knight Riders to seize complete control in a must-win IPL 2026 encounter.
On a night where KKR needed nothing short of victory to keep their playoff hopes alive, GT put down four catches and paid a massive price as Finn Allen's brutal assault powered the hosts past 230.

The biggest damage came through Allen, who smashed a breathtaking 93 off just 35 deliveries before finally falling in the 12th over. But by then, the damage had already been done - much of it self-inflicted by Gujarat.
The first warning sign arrived early when Allen survived a difficult chance in the third over after miscued aggression against Mohammed Siraj. The New Zealand batter then rode his luck again in the seventh over when Siraj himself grassed a straightforward chance at long-on.
That drop proved decisive.
Allen, already looking dangerous, exploded immediately after the reprieve and tore through the Gujarat attack. He raced to a 21-ball half-century and dismantled both pace and spin with complete freedom, hammering Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore, Arshad Khan and Jason Holder alike.
The carnage included three consecutive sixes off Arshad Khan in the 11th over as Allen surged to 93 off just 34 balls before eventually falling to Rashid Khan near the boundary rope.
But the fielding troubles did not stop there.
Cameron Green, bought for ₹25.20 crore at the auction, was also handed a major reprieve when Arshad Khan dropped another catch in the deep. Green capitalised instantly, launching Sai Kishore and Rashid for towering sixes during a rapid cameo.
Even late in the innings, Gujarat's misery in the field continued as another chance went down in the death overs, summing up an uncharacteristically sloppy performance from one of the tournament's most disciplined sides.
The dropped catches overshadowed what had otherwise been a strong stretch for the Titans, who entered the contest on the back of five consecutive victories and needing just one more win to officially seal their playoff spot.
Instead, KKR's aggressive batting unit made them pay heavily.
Alongside Allen's fireworks, Angkrish Raghuvanshi anchored the innings brilliantly with another composed half-century, while Green added late acceleration as Kolkata powered beyond the 200-run mark with overs to spare.
For Shubman Gill's side, the defeat in the field could prove a timely warning ahead of the playoffs. Gujarat's success this season has largely been built on discipline, sharp execution, and pressure-catching moments. Against KKR, all three deserted them at once.
And in a tournament where small margins often decide seasons, Gujarat Titans were reminded just how expensive dropped chances can become against fearless batting lineups.
