KKR vs LSG IPL 2024: Why Lucknow Super Giants Are Wearing Maroon Jersey Today in Kolkata?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will sport a secondary kit - green and maroon, when they take the field to take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (April 14).

On the eve of the KKR clash, LSG announced through their social media channels that they will sport the alternate kit which they launched last season and wore it in the clash against the same team at the same venue.

LSG and KKR will battle to push for the second spot when they face off for the fourth time in IPL history and for the second time at the iconic venue - Eden Gardens.

KKR suffered their first loss of the season last time out against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai, but they will aim to get back to winning ways as they return home after three matches on the road.

LSG, on the other hand, were handed their second loss of the season in their most recent outing when they hosted Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow earlier this week. Now, they will look get back among the wins with the new kit.

Why Lucknow Super Giants are wearing Maroon Jersey against Kolkata Knight Riders?

LSG introduced the maroon jersey as a tribute to one of Bengal's famous clubs, Mohun Bagan Super Giant, which is also owned by RP Sanjeev Goenka Group, the owners of the Lucknow-based IPL franchise.

While that's one reason, LSG sporting a different jersey to their original kit will be a welcome move for audience as the green and maroon jersey will not conflict with KKR's purple kit as opposed to LSG's shades of blue jersey.

RPSG acquired the Lucknow franchise after IPL's expansion in 2022 and also claimed principal ownership of Mohun Bagan by buying out a majority stake in the Indian Super League club in 2023.

Following Mohun Bagan's ISL title win in 2023, the club owner Goenka announced that ATK Mohun Bagan will be officially renamed as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from June 1, 2023.

One of the most decorated football clubs, Mohun Bagan Super Giant will battle Mumbai City FC for the ISL shield on Monday (April 15) and will also be involved in ISL 2023-24 playoffs later this month.

Before MBSG bag the title, LSG will hope to register another win in front of the Kolkata crowd like last season when they clinched a thrilling victory over the rivals by a margin of one run.
