KKR vs LSG: Who was the Unsung Hero As Lucknow Edge Kolkata In High-Scoring Thriller?

KKR vs LSG: In a high-scoring spectacle at Eden Gardens, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) held their nerve to register a narrow 4-run win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2025.

Despite a valiant unbeaten knock from Rinku Singh, KKR fell just short of chasing down LSG's imposing total of 238.

KKR vs LSG

After being put in to bat by KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane, LSG's batting line-up exploded from the get-go. Aiden Markram set the tone with a blistering 47 off 28 balls, followed by a classy 81 from Mitchell Marsh. But it was Nicholas Pooran who provided the late innings carnage, smashing an unbeaten 87 from just 36 deliveries at an eye-popping strike rate of 241.67. Abdul Samad also chipped in with a quick 6-ball 9 before David Miller (4*) saw things through to a daunting total of 238/3.

KKR's bowlers had a forgettable outing, with Harshit Rana being the most expensive, conceding 51 runs in his four overs. Even the usually reliable Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy couldn't keep the run flow in check, as LSG capitalized brilliantly on the batting-friendly conditions.

In reply, KKR started aggressively with Quinton de Kock hitting a brisk 15-ball 30 and Sunil Narine blasting a 13-ball 30. Ajinkya Rahane anchored the chase with a masterful 61 off 35 balls, but his dismissal off a full toss in the 13th over triggered a middle-order wobble.

Despite the flurry of wickets, Rinku Singh remained calm and determined. Walking in at a tricky stage, Rinku played one of his finest knocks under pressure-an unbeaten 38 off just 17 balls. He unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes in the death overs and kept KKR within touching distance of an improbable win. However, with 20 runs required off the final over, Rinku just couldn't find the boundaries needed, even as he tried valiantly.

Shardul Thakur, who had earlier endured a bizarre over with five wides and a wicket, redeemed himself by picking up two crucial wickets, including that of Rahane and Andre Russell. Akash Deep also played a vital role with a 2-wicket haul, including the key scalps of de Kock and Venkatesh Iyer.

In the end, it was LSG's composure in the death overs that saw them home, defending 238 to clinch a tense 4-run victory. But while the headlines might go to Pooran and Marsh, Rinku Singh's gutsy knock deserved just as much applause-he stood tall as KKR's unsung hero, almost pulling off what would have been one of the most remarkable chases in IPL history.
