The proceedings of the IPL 2024 match today (May 11) between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians is in doubt as rain has started in the City of Joy.
The match is supposed to be a Eden Gardens but rain and thunderstorms were predicted, and it has panned out to be exactly that.

As per the latest weather updates in Kolkata, there is rain and thunderstorms and a 70 per cent chance of heavy rain in the evening.
KKR currently sit on top of the table with 16 points in 11 matches, while Mumbai Indians are eliminated already from the tournament. If the heavens remain open for the upcoming hours, the future of the match can be in doubt.
If Kolkata Knight Riders win the match, they will be the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs. But if they lose the match, the race for playoffs will remain wide open. But what if the rain washes out the match at Eden Gardens? That can have a multifaceted effect on multiple teams.
If rain washes out the encounter, the two teams will collect one point each. KKR will go to 17 points in 12 matches.
It will be unwelcoming news for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants - as it will mean that they can't catch the Knight Riders anymore as the trio can reach a maximum of 16 points. A point for KKR will also seal their qualification for the playoffs, but won't necessarily guarantee the top two spots.
But if KKR gets one point, Sunrisers Hyderabad will remain in the top two race. SRH currently have 14 points in 12 matches. It means after today's washout, if KKR lose their next two matches and SRH win their two, the Orange Army will qualify for the playoffs as the 2nd placed team in the table.
But SRH's bigger bet will be if Kolkata loses against Mumbai Indians today. All in all, the playoff race remains an enticing one and we may witness dynamic changes in the status in the coming days.
