KKR vs RCB, IPL 2024: Heartbreak for RCB as Kolkata Knight Riders pull off Thrilling Win by 1 Run

Kolkata Knight Riders pulled off a nailbiting victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a crucial IPL 2024 match on Sunday (April 21) at the Eden Gardens.

The Knight Riders got back to winning ways after prevailing by just 1 run against RCB and have gone up to the 2nd position in the points table.

Kolkata Knight Riders posted a mammoth total of 222 runs after batting first on a scorching afternoon at the Eden Gardens. Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant fifty and anchored the KKR innings after Phil Salt provided them a fantastic start. The Englishman scored 48 runs off 14 balls while Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh also played decent cameos. Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell finished off strongly as KKR posted over 200 for the 4th time this season.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started decently for RCB but both openers fell in quick succession, the former getting out amid controversial circumstances. Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks massacred the Kolkata bowling and stitched a fantastic partnership of 102 runs in just 48 balls to give them a fantastic platform.

Andre Russell got two wickets in an over to give KKR a big breakthrough. Sunil Narine then picked up two wickets in an over but RCB maintained their scoring rate throughout their innings. Karthik and Prabhudessai added some vital runs at the end and took RCB close.

With 37 required in the last three overs, Harshit Rana picked up the wicket of Prabhudessai and it all fell on Karthik's shoulder to take the Bengaluru side home. Andre Russell picked up Karthik in the 19th over as RCB needed 21 runs from the final over. But Karun Sharma almost pulled off a stunner as he hit 3 sixes off Starc. With 3 needed in two balls, Sharma got out, and then Lockie Ferguson was run out in the final ball as KKR prevailed by just a solitary run.

Andre Russell was the pick of the KKR bowlers as the West Indies star picked up 3 wickets. Sunil Narine also got a brace while Harshit Rana pulled off another fantastic spell with two wickets.

With the victory, KKR move to the 2nd spot in the table while RCB remain rooted at the bottom of the table.
