A sudden rain and thunderstorm hampered the practice session of both Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday (March 21) in Kolkata.
KKR and RCB are set to clash in the opening match of the IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens on March 22. However, both teams faced disruptions in their preparations due to sudden rainfall in the city.

On Friday, the two teams were scheduled to practice from 5 pm onwards and the session was scheduled till the evening on Friday, but around six in the evening, the rain has curtailed the preparations.
MyKhe learned from OneIndia Bengali that RCB star Virat Kohli managed to complete his net practice before the rain arrived, but the unexpected showers resulted in a loss of nearly two hours of training time for both teams.
KKR and RCB were practicing simultaneously when the rain hit, forcing the sessions to be cut short. Following the downpour, the ground staff quickly covered the pitch and outfield to prevent further damage.
In the lead-up to the season opener, Kolkata has experienced intermittent showers. Notably, a KKR intra-squad practice match was cut short after just one innings due to rain.
Weather forecasts had already warned of a Nor'wester seasonal storm bringing rain and strong winds- expected to hit Kolkata and surrounding areas on Friday. The rain remains a concern for the much-anticipated season opener as the weather forecast predicts rain in the afternoon on Saturday as well. Although Eden Gardens has a superb drainage system, a heavy downpour can be a big challenge to conduct the opening match.
