KKR vs RCB: Was Virat Kohli Out or Not Out? Why was Virat Kohli Given Out against Kolkata Knight Riders Today?
Virat Kohli had to fall victim to a controversial decision against Kolkata Knight Riders in a crucial IPL 2024 match today (April 21) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Chasing 223 runs, Kohli and Faf du Plessis started brilliantly, but the RCB batter was out in the first ball of the third over.

Harshit Rana's ball met Kohli on full and a leading edge was easily picked up by the bowler himself. The umpires went for a review to the third umpire, but Michael Gough, the 3rd umpire, adjudicated Kohli out despite many thought it was over waist high.
Kohli started with a lot of promise but he had to depart after scoring 18 runs off just 7 balls. The RCB star was not happy with the decision and also had a heated spat with an on-field umpire before taking his long walk back to the crease.
But was the decision the right one? Why did the umpire judge Virat Kohli out despite it looked at par with waist high?
KKR vs RCB: Why was Virat Kohli Given Out?
Generally, a batter is expected to be at his crease and his original stance and height are regarded while projecting the height of a ball in case of a waist-high full toss or over-the-head wide ball.
Kohli met the ball at waist high, but the ball was dipping and Kohli was way outside of his crease. Hence, the umpire decided to dismiss Kohli after considering Kohli's expected original stance and position within the crease.
The ball would have crossed Virat Kohli lower than his waist height had he been in his natural position at the crease. The projected ball tracking quite clearly shows the ball was dipping and going down. Hence, it was the correct decision from the Third Umpire and Virat Kohli was rightfully given out.
