KKR vs RR IPL 2025: Andre Russell Scripts History For Kolkata, Joins Elite List Of Franchise Greats

KKR vs RR: Andre Russell has long been a cornerstone of Kolkata Knight Riders' batting firepower, and in the 2025 season, the Jamaican powerhouse has added another feather to his already illustrious cap.

In a high-octane clash against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, 4th April, Russell etched his name deeper into KKR's history books by becoming just the second player to cross the 2500-run mark for the franchise in the Indian Premier League.

With a destructive knock of 57* off just 25 deliveries, Russell once again proved that age is just a number. Promoted up the order to bat at No. 5, he unleashed a trademark onslaught, hammering 4 boundaries and clearing the ropes 6 times. His 22-ball half-century wasn't just a personal triumph-it also became KKR's fastest fifty of the 2025 season, eclipsing Ajinkya Rahane's 24-ball effort against RCB.

In doing so, Russell now stands behind only Gautam Gambhir in KKR's all-time run-scorers list. Gambhir still leads with 3035 runs, followed by Russell's 2500+ and Robin Uthappa's 2439 runs, placing Russell firmly among the pillars of KKR's batting legacy.

Russell's performance wasn't limited to franchise records. With this latest innings at the Eden Gardens, he also became just the third batter to score over 1000 T20 runs at the iconic venue. His total of 1047 runs at Eden trails only Gambhir (1462) and Uthappa (1160), further highlighting his connection with the Kolkata faithful.

The West Indian's return to form with the bat could not have come at a better time for the defending champions, who are eyeing a strong finish to the league stage.

Alongside contributions from young talents like Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, as well as experienced names like Rinku Singh and Rahane, Russell's explosion helped propel KKR to an imposing total of 206 in their 20 overs.

While Russell has already made his mark over the years with game-changing performances, his recent blitz shows he still has plenty to offer. As KKR push for a playoff berth, they'll be banking on their seasoned match-winner to keep producing the kind of fireworks that have made him one of the most feared finishers in T20 cricket.
