In a pivotal moment during the IPL 2025 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Eden Gardens, KKR pacer Vaibhav Arora was on the brink of achieving a rare double-wicket maiden.
Having already dismissed Ishan Kishan earlier in the over, Arora looked set to claim his second scalp in the same over.

However, Andre Russell dropped Kamindu Mendis at mid-on, which denied Arora the feat and offered SRH some breathing space amid early trouble. The Himachal Pradesh bowler managed to get the maiden over, but he couldn't get the second wicket in the over.
After putting up a strong total of 200/6 on the board, largely built on explosive knocks from Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29) and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi (50 off 32), KKR's bowlers came out fired up. Vaibhav Arora struck in the very first over, removing Travis Head to set the tone. Harshit Rana followed it up with the wicket of Abhishek Sharma in the second over, and soon after, Ishan Kishan fell for a duck-leaving SRH in deep trouble at 9/3 within third over of the run chase.
The pressure was relentless from KKR's seamers, who used the new ball to perfection, getting movement and extracting bounce from the surface. The early burst put SRH on the back foot, with the run chase turning into a rescue mission far earlier than expected.
Delivering a two-wicket maiden over in the IPL is a rare and noteworthy achievement, especially in a format where economy often takes a back seat to aggression. A few bowlers have managed to etch their names in the league's history with this rare feat.
Mohammed Siraj: In the 2020 season, Siraj stunned the opposition with two consecutive maiden overs, picking up three wickets in that spell-making him the first in IPL history to bowl two maidens in a match.
Harshal Patel: Known for his death bowling, Harshal produced a double-wicket maiden during the 2022 season, showcasing remarkable control and variation under pressure.
David Willey: The English bowler managed the same against KKR in 2023.
Yash Thakur: Yash Thakur managed a two-wicket maiden for Lucknow Super Giants against Gujarat Titans.
