KKR vs SRH: Empty Seats Despite Claims of 'Sold-Out' Tickets, Fans Cry 'Scam'

By MyKhel Staff

KKR vs SRH: Eden Gardens, one of cricket's most iconic venues, found itself at the center of a ticketing controversy during the IPL 2025 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 3.

While fans claimed that official platforms displayed a 'sold out' status for the match, visible portions of the stands remained visibly empty well into the game, sparking outrage among fans.

KKR vs SRH Empty Stands Sold-Out Tickets Eden Gardens Fans reaction

Social media was abuzz with complaints from fans who were unable to secure tickets despite the evident gaps in the stands. One fan questioned, "Why is Eden Gardens empty today?" while another labelled it "nothing less than a scam," urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to intervene.

Another fan highlighted a recurring issue, pointing out that lower-priced tickets always seem unavailable, raising concerns over potential mismanagement or bulk bookings that never translate into actual attendance. While some spectators eventually trickled into the stadium as the match progressed, the sight of empty seats at a sold-out IPL fixture raised serious concerns.

Another fan tweeted that several factors may have contributed to the situation. Overpriced tickets, the match being played on a weekday, and Kolkata's humid conditions could have deterred spectators. Additionally, KKR's inconsistent form this season and recent debates over the Eden Gardens pitch might have played a role in fans opting to watch from the comfort of their homes.

Despite the empty seats, those who attended made their presence felt. The stadium, which boasts a capacity of 68,000, reached a deafening 125 decibels when KKR dismissed Travis Head during SRH's chase. The passionate Kolkata crowd ensured the home team had enough vocal support as KKR aimed to defend their total of 200/6.

KKR, after being put in to bat, recovered from early setbacks as Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29) and young talent Angkrish Raghuvanshi steadied the innings. Captain Ajinkya Rahane played a crucial role, while late fireworks from Andre Russell pushed the score to 200.

During SRH's chase, Vaibhav Arora struck in the first over, setting the tone for KKR's defense. With the stadium coming alive in key moments, the home team capitalized on the support, ensuring a tough outing for the visitors.

While KKR fans celebrated their team's strong performance, the empty seat controversy remains a talking point, raising questions about IPL's ticketing system and accessibility for fans eager to witness the action live.
