Mitchell Starc lived up to his price tag and showed why Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for a whopping amount of Rs 24.75 crore after rattling the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) top-order in the IPL 2024 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26.
The big match player turned the heat on SRH on the very first over of the match by cleaning the stumps of in-form Abhishek Sharma (2). The young opener was clean bowled on the fifth delivery of the match after the Starc delivery nipped away treacherously to hit the off-stump.

The 23-year-old was in top form throughout the season. He finished his campaign with 484 runs at an average of 32.27 and a whopping strike rate of 204.21. Sharma hit as many as 42 sixes in the tournament.
However, even before he could get going in the final against KKR, Starc cleaned his stumps with an unplayable delivery. Vaibhav Arora, who bowled the second over, dismissed Abhishek Sharma's opening partner Travis Head for a duck.
Mitchell Starc then picked the wicket of Rahul Tripathi on the second ball of the fifth over. Tripathi had played a key role in SRH's win over Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 on Friday. On a surface where other batters struggled, he scored 37 runs off 15 balls to help SRH post 175/9 and win by 36 runs.
Australia legend Starc was having a forgettable IPL 2024 season before he returned to form against Mumbai Indians in match 54 of IPL 2024. In the Qualifier 1 against SRH, he finished with match-winning figures of 3/34. He clean bowled Travis Head for a duck in the first over of the match.
