Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis achieved a rare moment on Thursday (April 3) by becoming the first player to bowl in both hands in a single over in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Mendis, who is on the rise in international cricket, pulled off the historic moment during his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The 26-year-old bowled three balls of left-arm spin and three of right-arm spin in his only over in the match. Leaving many confused, he also went on to claim a wicket during the history-making over.
Introduced in the 13th over, Mendis struck in the fourth delivery with his left-arm spin, which brought him the dismissal of right-hand batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who departed for 50 off 32 after an excellent catch from Harshal Patel at deep backward point.
In his only over, Mendis conceded just four runs and claimed one wicket, bowling three deliveries of left-arm spin at Raghuvanshi and three balls of right-arm spin against left-handed pair Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh. Watch the video here:
This is not the first time Mendis has bowled in both his arms in a single over. In international cricket, he had bowled a mix of left arm and right arm spin against Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant during a T20I in 2024.
In fact, the rising star in the longest format for his batting was in focus for his ambidextrous bowling in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, according to ESPNcricinfo. He also becomes the second Sri Lanka to use both his arms in an over in international cricket after Hashan Tillakaratne, who did the same against Kenya at the 1996 World Cup.
Coming back to the KKR vs SRH IPL 2025 match, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their third straight loss in the ongoing season and occupy the foot of the table, having won only match so far in four attempts.
