'Every India player must have KL Rahul's mentality', says Bengal Coach Saurasish Lahiri

KL Rahul has shown his mettle with an excellent past few months in the international setup. After a dismal period last year, the player has rejuvenated himself in India colours, and Bengal coach Saurasish Lahiri hails Rahul's mentality.

The versatility KL Rahul has shown in the last few months is quite impeccable. The player was out of the Indian team due to his bad batting form, but forced his way through with his wicket-keeping prowess after Rishabh Pun's injury and long layoff.

Rahul has seized the opportunity to be India's all-format wicketkeeper at the moment. He represented India in the ODIs and T20Is, and also was the first-choice wicketkeeper in the World Cup 2023.

And in the upcoming South Africa series, it can be confirmed that KL Rahul will be the custodian behind the wicket. Former Bengal player and current coach Saurasish Lahiri cited the fact in an exclusive chat with MyKhel and heaped praises on the player for his immense adaptive ability.

Rahul has rhythmed himself with the ever-changing scenario of the Indian team's dynamics, and has evolved as one of the indispensable members of the Indian team. And Lahiri says the Karnataka-born player epitomizes the kind of mentality an India player must have to serve his country.

"You have to be mentally prepared for everything when you represent India. Look at KL Rahul, he has played everywhere. He opened in the past and now slots into the middle order. He has also added wicketkeeping in his kitty to help the Indian team. That's how it should be. A player must be ready to play in the way the team needs him, and Rahul has shown that," Lahiri said to MyKhel.

Notably, Rahul has also captained the Indian team in the just-concluded ODI series against South Africa and the Indian team registered a 2-1 series win in the 50-over format.

The transition from limited overs to the Test format has to be quick for Rahul, who last played a Test match in February this year against Australia.
