KL Rahul Marks Return with Sublime Century as India A Post 319/7 Against England Lions

KL Rahul marked his return to red-ball cricket with a commanding century at the County Ground in Northampton, steering India A to a competitive 319/7 on the opening day of their second unofficial Test against the England Lions on Friday.

Rahul, who opened the innings, looked in complete control as he compiled a classy 116 off 168 balls, laced with 15 boundaries and a six. His knock provided much-needed stability to the Indian innings after a shaky start against the moving ball.

The England Lions won the toss and decided to bowl first, a decision that initially paid off. Veteran seamer Chris Woakes struck early, removing Yashasvi Jaiswal with a delivery that trapped the left-hander plumb in front. Woakes continued his fine rhythm and soon sent skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran back for a modest 11, leaving India A in early trouble.

Karun Nair then joined forces with Rahul and stitched together a crucial stand. Nair played positively for his 40 before falling victim to Woakes once again. Rahul, however, remained unperturbed at the other end, showcasing a full range of strokes and impeccable timing.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel then partnered with Rahul and played a vital supporting role. The duo built a solid partnership, with Jurel reaching his half-century with confidence. The partnership was eventually broken when George Hill cleaned up Jurel for 52. Hill struck again soon after, this time dismissing the centurion Rahul, who had held the innings together brilliantly.

Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed a handy 34 before being removed by Tom Haines, while Shardul Thakur added a quick 19 before falling to spinner Farham Ahmed. As stumps were drawn, Tanush Kotian and Anshul Kamboj remained unbeaten on 5 and 1 respectively.

Among the England Lions bowlers, Woakes led the pack with figures of 3 wickets, while Hill chipped in with two key breakthroughs.

With Rahul's sublime century at the heart of India A's innings, the visitors will now aim to build on this foundation and press for dominance on Day 2.
