Kavya Maran, the dynamic CEO of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has solidified her place as one of the most influential figures in franchise cricket with her recent acquisition of the Northern Superchargers in England’s The Hundred.
This landmark deal, valued at £100 million (₹1,000 crore), marks the first full ownership transfer in the history of The Hundred, with Yorkshire County Cricket Club selling their entire stake to Maran’s Sun Group. With this move, Maran becomes the only IPL owner with complete control over a team in The Hundred, setting a precedent for global cricket expansion.

The Northern Superchargers were established in 2019 as one of the eight teams in The Hundred, representing Yorkshire and the North East. Based at Headingley, the team has participated in every season of the tournament since its inception.
The team was originally under the ownership of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, which played a key role in managing operations and player acquisitions. However, due to financial struggles, the club decided to sell its stake, leading to Kavya Maran’s takeover.
The men’s team has had mixed performances, failing to reach the final stages in previous seasons, while the women’s team has also faced challenges in making a significant impact. However, both teams have shown flashes of brilliance with individual performances.
The men’s team has featured stars like Adam Lyth, Harry Brook, and Adil Rashid, while the women’s side has boasted talents such as Alyssa Healy and Hollie Armitage. With Kavya Maran’s takeover, the team could see increased investment and a strategic revamp.
Kavya Maran is not merely participating in the game; she’s reshaping it, and her growing cricket empire promises to make a lasting impact on the sport’s global landscape.
