Know All About Vinod Kambli's Current Health Condition and History as Friend Reveals His Ailing Condition

By MyKhel Staff

Vinod Kambli, once a celebrated Indian cricketer and Sachin Tendulkar's childhood companion, has been facing severe health challenges, leaving fans deeply concerned.

A video from a recent event honouring their late coach Ramakant Achrekar captured Kambli struggling to stand and walk, holding onto Tendulkar for support. The visuals sparked widespread alarm about his well-being.

Marcus Couto, a close friend and former first-class umpire, told Times of India alarming details about Kambli's condition. He revealed that the cricketer has undergone rehabilitation 14 times but continues to battle multiple health problems. "There's no point taking him to rehab anymore," Couto lamented, citing repeated failed attempts to treat him at facilities, including those in Vasai.

Vinod Kambli's struggles with health

Kambli's health has been deteriorating for over a decade. In 2013, he suffered a major heart attack due to blocked arteries, leading to angioplasty. Depression has also been a recurring struggle, exacerbated by allegations of alcohol dependency. These challenges have led to repeated hospitalisations and medical interventions, but his condition remains precarious.

Earlier this year, another concerning video of Kambli struggling to walk circulated on social media. Couto visited him at his Bandra residence following the incident, observing firsthand the severity of his condition. Despite his physical and mental challenges, Kambli has sporadically reassured fans about his health. However, his visible frailty tells a different story, with many fearing for his future.

Support for Kambli has been extended by cricketing icons. Kapil Dev, the former Indian captain, and Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a World Cup-winning bowler, have both pledged financial assistance for Kambli's rehabilitation. However, they emphasized that recovery begins with Kambli's willingness to commit to treatment. Kapil stated, "If he chooses to go to rehab, we are ready to foot the bill, regardless of how long it takes."

Kambli's struggles are a stark contrast to his early promise as a cricketer. Alongside Tendulkar, he famously set a world-record 664-run partnership in a school match. However, while Tendulkar ascended to unparalleled heights, Kambli's career was marred by disciplinary issues and personal turmoil.

As Kambli navigates these troubled waters, fans and friends remain hopeful for his recovery. His health struggles underscore the need for comprehensive support systems for athletes, particularly as they transition into life beyond their sporting careers. With the right care and commitment, many hope Kambli can overcome his challenges and find stability in the years to come.
