Know Why Vinod Kambli Rejected a ₹1 Lakh Job Amid Financial Struggles

By MyKhel Staff

Vinod Kambli, once a celebrated Indian cricketer, is now navigating a difficult phase in life. Known for his flamboyant lifestyle during the 1990s, Kambli's fortunes have dwindled drastically.

Despite having a net worth of ₹12-13 crore at his peak, he is now reliant on a ₹30,000 monthly pension from the BCCI. Recently, a video featuring Kambli and his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar went viral.

The duo attended an event in Mumbai commemorating their late mentor Ramakant Achrekar's birth anniversary. In the video, Kambli appeared frail, highlighting his ongoing personal and financial struggles.

Why Kambli Turned Down a ₹1 Lakh Job Offer

In 2022, Kambli shared his hardships in an interview with Mid-Day, where he expressed his desire for a cricket-related job. He said, "I am a retired cricketer, completely dependent on the BCCI pension. My only income is from the Board, which helps support my family."

He added, "I need assignments where I can work with youngsters." Following this, Maharashtra businessman Sandeep Thorat offered Kambli a ₹1 lakh per month job in the finance division of Sahyadri Industry Group.

However, Kambli declined the offer, explaining that the role was unrelated to cricket. "I want to work in cricket. That's my passion," Kambli said. He was previously associated with the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy in Nerul, Mumbai.

However, he found the daily commute from his Bandra West residence too taxing. "I used to wake up at 5 am, take a cab to DY Patil Stadium, and coach at BKC in the evening. It was exhausting," he told Mid-Day.

Hopes for a Cricket-Related Role

Kambli's story has drawn sympathy from fans and the cricketing community. Despite his struggles, the 52-year-old remains optimistic about finding opportunities where he can mentor young players and contribute to Indian cricket.
