Kohli-Rohit Set For Demotion In BCCI Central Contracts, Shubman Gill To Be Promoted To A+ Category: Report

The BCCI is set to take up one of its most significant contract overhauls in recent years when the board's apex council meets for its Annual General Meeting on December 22.

The online session is expected to feature detailed discussions on the revised central contracts of senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom have stepped away from Test and T20I cricket and now represent India only in the ODI format.

With their reduced international workload, the pair reportedly to be moved out of the top contract bracket, paving the way for a new leadership core. India's all-format captain Shubman Gill, alongside vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, is expected to be elevated to the elite A+ category. The shift would reflect their increased responsibilities and all-format involvement.

The AGM will also address a range of administrative and operational matters. Proposed revisions for domestic women's cricket contracts are on the agenda, as are improved match fees for umpires and referees. The board is also set to receive updates on its digital platforms and ongoing commercial initiatives.

This will be the first AGM following changes within the BCCI's top brass. Mithun Manhas took over as president in September, with Raghuram Bhatt becoming treasurer. Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia stepped in as secretary and joint secretary, respectively, while Saurashtra Cricket Association chief Jaydev Shah joined the council after the latest round of elections.

Central contracts remain a key pillar of player remuneration in Indian cricket. They are divided into four slabs - A+ (₹7 crore), A (₹5 crore), B (₹3 crore), and C (₹1 crore). Beyond the annual retainer, contracted players enjoy year-long access to the National Cricket Academy's Centre of Excellence and receive specialised medical and rehabilitation support from BCCI's dedicated staff.

The upcoming meeting could mark a reshaping of the hierarchy within the national setup, with a new generation set to take its place at the top of Indian cricket's contract structure.
