Kolkata: Thousands of people greeted Sourav Ganguly, his wife Dona and daughter Sana on their arrival at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport this evening, with securitymen having a tough time to control the fans.
Scribes and lensmen waiting for hours for the most successful former Indian captain returned without having a quote and photo session as many thought to have.
The airport, a highly security zone in the city, had never witnessed such crowd at a time in recent memory and police had to make a prompt decision to take away the cricketing icon from the thronging crowd, said a police official.
Ganguly in interviews in private televisions said he was extremely happy on his last day at Nagpur for the ovation he received from supporters and greetings from players.
Speaking highly on the capability of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ganguly said he could see himself in Dhoni.
''Dhoni has natural capability to lead India to a very high standard of cricket. Gary Kirsten has got the Indian pulse and his man management is superb,'' said the prince of Kolkata.
Ganguly said his greatest regret was not to win World Cup in the final against Australia and winning IPL is his next ambition.
He further said he would like to devote his time on wife, daughter and look after his aged father and their family business.
He added his greatest day was the century at Lords that according to him had changed his whole life.
