Kolkata, Oct 4: Former Bengal cricketers, who came to Eden Gardens to watch India-New Zealand second Test on the fourth day (October 3), started brooding over after Wriddhiman Saha was called by commentator Ravi Shastri to take the Man-of-the-match award. India won by 178 runs to clinch the series 2-0 and with that the top spot in ICC Rankings.

Starting from Raju Mukherjee, Gopal Bose to former national selector Sambaran Banerjee, all were thinking the same that was there anybody to become Man-of-the-match in a Test before Sourav Ganguly? The answer came, it was probably Pankaj Roy.

Saha set another mark by becoming the first Man-of-the-match as a Bengali at the Eden Gardens, surpassing even Sourav Ganguly. And after the match, Saha could not be found at the Eden Gardens. He seemed to have been flooded by congratulatory messages. It was from his teammates in Bengal. It was from his relatives. It was from his other friends also.

And the wicketkeeper, who was described as the best in the country by his captain Virat Kohli after the end of the game, was spotted in one corner of the dressing room as everybody was in search of him.

Saha was talking to his father Prasanta Saha and then he called his childhood coach Jayanta Bhowmick. Saha's parents and his childhood coach, both live in Siliguri.

When contacted, Saha's father, the elated man, said, "I knew he would excel one day in this manner. I knew his nonchalant attitude will force him to the success one day. And today was the beginning. I am proud."

His childhood coach Bhowmick was also proud for his student, but he said, "Papali (Saha's nickname) has taken the right attitude in the life as he never shows any kind of elation even after noticeable success. This attitude will guide him towards more achievement in future."

Romi, Saha's wife also gets sometimes amazed after watching his husband's coolness. She said, "He must have been excited, but he has the skill of defusing the emotion. And that is why he so adorned in the society."

Saha scored unbeaten half centuries in both innings of the Kolkata Test. He is the 4th stumper from India to do so.
