KPL 2015 postponed for Stuart Binny and Karun Nair

Bengaluru, Aug 27: The Karnataka Premier League 2015 (KPL) Twenty20 tournament has been postponed by a day and will now start on September 3, the organisers have announced.

The decision to move the start of the tournament was taken by the KPL Governing Council to ensure league's costliest player Stuart Binny and Karun Nair are available for their respective teams on the opening day.

Earlier, the 4th edition of KPL was scheduled to get under way on September 2. With Binny and Nair part of Indian Test team in Sri Lanka, they will return home on September 2 and would have been unavailable to play on the first day.

Binny is with Namma Shivamogga while Nair is part of Mangalore United. Both teams will be seen in action on the first day.

The 3rd and final Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, which starts tomorrow (August 28), is scheduled to end on September 1.

The rest of the schedule will remain the same with the dates being pushed by a day. As per the new schedule, the rest day will now be September 11 instead of September 10 and the final will take place on September 20. The matches will be held in Hubballi and Mysuru.

Vijay Mruthyunjaya, official spokesperson of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), said, "the KPL Governing Council took the decision to move the tournament to enable Mangalore United and Namma Shivamogga benefit by having their star players Karun Nair and Stuart Binny available for their first match."

KPL 2015 matches will be telecast live on Sony Six. There are 8 teams including a film actors' All Stars XI.
