Taking a five-wicket haul in T20Is is a rare and remarkable feat and it wouldn't have been possible without bowler's skill and precision. Unlike other formats, T20 cricket is a fast-paced, batter-friendly game where bowlers have limited overs and often face relentless attacking from batters.
According to the ICC rules, a bowler can bowl his full quota of four overs in the shortest format of the game and making a telling impact in these overs is not an easy feat.

However, some Indian bowlers have let the performances do the talking and bagged five wickets. Let's now take a look at five Indian bowlers who have managed to break through with a five-for in T20Is.
1. Kuldeep Yadav: The chinaman bowler takes pride in the fact that he leads the Indian bowlers with two five-wicket hauls in T20Is. The Kanpur-born is one of the most successful and versatile spinners in this format. The left-arm wrist spinner has often deceived the batters with an arsenal of variations.
Kuldeep registered his first five-wicket haul against England at Old Trafford, Manchester in 2018, which came in a winning cause. With this achievement, he became the first chinaman bowler to take a fifer in T20Is. Five years later, he went on to bag another five-wicket haul in just 2.5 overs against South Africa in Johannesburg. His impressive 5/17 helped India churn out a massive 106-run win.
2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The 34-year-old paceman who has taken 90 wickets in T20Is is the other Indian who has bagged two five-wicket hauls in T20Is. In a format where the new ball doesn’t always get full swing, he has shown his ability to exploit early movement, a trait that has set him apart.
He picked his first five-wicket haul (5/24) against South Africa in 2018, which came in a winning cause. India won by 28 runs and Bhuvneshwar was named the Man of the Match. The seasoned cricketer bagged his second fifer against Afghanistan (5/4) in Asia Cup 2022, which India won by 101 runs.
3. Yuzvendra Chahal: Yuzvendra Chahal was the first Indian to bag a five-wicket haul in T20Is. He accomplished the feat against England where he deceived the batters with deceptive flight and control. The leggie dismissed key opposition batters and delivered breakthroughs when it mattered. Chahal registered 6/25 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which came in a winning cause as India won by 75 runs.
4. Deepak Chahar: Deepak Chahar who is known for his disciplined line and length, picked up his five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in 2019. The right-arm medium-fast bowler who has exceptional ability to pick up wickets during the powerplay overs ripped through the defense of Bangladesh's batting line-up to take six wickets, giving away just 7 runs in Nagpur T20I, which India won by 30 runs. Chahar was named the Man of the Match for his stellar bowling performance at an economy of 2.30.
5. Varun Chakravarthy: The mystery spinner who often leaves batters guessing, with his unorthodox spin and variation, registered his five-wicket haul against South Africa at St George's Park, Gqeberha recently. The Tamil Nadu-born used his unique action to pose a threat for batters and went on to pick up five wickets in his quota of four overs, giving away 17 runs. Unfortunately, his impressive spell came in a losing cause as South Africa won the game by 3 wickets.
