Kumble ready to take up challenge of captaincy

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) Newly appointed Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble today said he was ready to take up the challenge to lead his side against arch rivals Pakistan in the three-match Test seriers starting on November 22.

Speaking to reporters at a promotional event here, Kumble said, ''I'll try to stand up to the expectations of the fans and responsibilities laid on my shoulders. Captaining India is always a challenge and I am fully prepared for it.'' Kumble, the third highest Test wicket taker, refused to comment on the team composition for the first Test at Feroz Shah Kotla. He also refrained from commenting anything about the Kotla pitch.

The leg spinner said his boys can not afford to lower their guards against their ''strong'' opponents.

Kumble, who claimed all the ten Pakistani wickets during a Test at very same ground in 1999, said ''People will definitely remind me of that feat. That was a special moment in my career. But in this match, we'll have to start all over again.'' UNI
