Leftie Warner determined to pursue 'disruptive' right-handed batting tactic

Melbourne, Feb 24 (ANI): Australian batsman David Warner is determined to push on with his experiment with batting right-handed, saying it is not a gimmick.

Warner has been told that he can switch-hit from a left-handed stance, but he can't face up right-handed because it wastes too much time with field settings.

The NSW slugger said Friday's first T20 International against New Zealand in Wellington could be another chance for him to push the patience of umpires by attempting to face up right-handed again, The Age reports.

Warner took guard as a right-hander during the sixth over on Tuesday against West Indies in an attempt to use his skills to disrupt off-spinner Narsingh Deonarine.

Umpire Rod Tucker told Warner it was against the spirit of the game and skipper Michael Clarke later indicated that Warner would concentrate on the switch-hit rather than taking guard the opposite way before the ball has been delivered.

Warner said the tactic of batting right-handed is designed to allow him to hit with the spin and was prompted by a training session of facing Nathan Hauritz at The Oval in England in 2009.

He said he bats right-handed for five minutes during each net session, and has been encouraged by Nielsen and a recent chat with former players Mark Taylor and Michael Slater to give it a go in a match. (ANI)
