Legends Cricket Trophy: Yuvraj Singh Joins Debutants New York Strikers As Captain And Icon Player For LCT Season 2

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was on Wednesday (February 14) named the captain and icon player of debutants New York Strikers for the upcoming Legends Cricket Trophy (LCT) Season 2.

After their triumph at the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament, the New York Strikers announced on Tuesday (February 13) about their participation in the second season of the Legends Cricket Trophy.

Just a day after they joined the LCT, the New York Strikers have announced the arrival of star all-rounder Yuvraj, who joins the team as the captain and the icon player.

"Yuvraj's addition enriches the squad with a depth of expertise, skill, and leadership, fortifying New York Superstar Strikers' readiness to lead in the upcoming edition of the tournament," the franchise said in a statement.

As they gear up for the Legends Cricket Trophy Season 2, the Strikers will now be on the lookout to further bolster their squad with additional star players, adding even more firepower to their already formidable arsenal.

The tournament, to be played in a 90-ball format, will be held in Kandy, Sri Lanka from March 7-18. The inaugural edition of the tournament was contested by 6 teams.

The first season, played in the 20-over format, was held in Ghaziabad from March 22 to 30 last year. Indore Knights and Guwahati Avengers were declared joint winners of the inaugural season after the final was washed out.

In the inaugural edition, the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag led the six sides - Chandigarh Champs, Nagpur Ninjas, Patna Warriors, Vizag Titans, Guwahati Avengers and Indore Knights.

While the teams and players participation will get clear in the coming days, the format for the upcoming edition sees a change from last edition which was contested in a traditional T20 format. The LCT 2 will be contested in 90-ball innings.

In the LCT90BALLS format, five bowlers of each team can bowl three overs. The captain of the bowling team can select one bowler to bowl four overs by the 60th ball.
