Lillee concurs with Gilchrist on Indian pace attack

Chennai, Jan 29 (UNI) Former Australian pace bowler Dennis Lillee today said there was little doubt that India had the potential to evolve into 'number one' in pace bowling talent.

''Yes, I agree with (former Aussie Vice-Captain Adam) Gilchrist's observation that India had the second best fast bowling attack in the world today and had the potential to evolve into number one,'' Lillee told newspersons at the MRF Pace Foundation where he had been training upcoming junior and senior level fast bowlers to play for India since 1988 when the Foundation was set up.

Gilchrist, who had announced his retirement from test cricket at the end of the series against India yesterday, had observed that India had the second best attack in the world after Australia and had the potential to become the number one.

Lillee said Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Sreesanth, R P Singh and Ishant Sharma had evolved into a formidable pace battery for India in tests as well as ODIs.

Asked if he thought that in 21 years after its birth, the MRF Pace Foundation had gained enough recognition and his work here was bearing fruit, he said ''I don't care much about that...But to me, real recognition is seeing my boys playing for India. Playing for India is the recognition for the Foundation.'' Lillee , however, refused to answer queries on the controversy- ridden Test series between India and Australia Down Under.
