Afghanistan’s ICC Tournament Stunners: List of Big Teams Afghanistan Defeated in World Cups & Champions Trophy

By MyKhel Staff

Afghanistan continued to make huge strides in men's cricket, continuing their giant-killing from the ODI World Cup in 2023 with yet another stunning win in their maiden Champions Trophy appearance.

Afghanistan, who made their ICC event debut in 2010 T20 World Cup as an affiliate member, has since grown from strength to strength, becoming a full member in ICC to reaching the knockout stages of a big ICC tournament.

Afghanistan ICC Tournament stunners

Having made their first T20 World Cup appearance in 2010, Afghanistan played in the competition in all the subsequent editions, but never had any telling impact despite possessing some of the top T20 talent in the game. They finally arrived on to the scene in T20 last year, stunning the defending champions to reach the semi-final.

The Asian side made their World Cup debut in the 2015 ODI World Cup, where they registered their first World Cup win against Scotland by one wicket. While they missed the next edition in 2019, Afghanistan announced their arrival at the grandest by beating three former champions in 2023.

This resulted in the Afghans qualifying for their first-ever Champions Trophy, which made it's return after an eight-year hiatus. The Afghanistan side did not disappoint again as they pulled off another stunner, proving that their wins are no longer upsets. Here is a look at Afghanistan's stunners in ICC events:
