The batters have dominated the Indian Premier League (IPL) since it's inception with the top order doing most of the damage to the fielding teams, but some bowlers have got the better of them over the years.
While some batters get their teams off to fast starts, the fielding team have also often put the brakes on the scoring with early wickets, especially removing the top three batters of the opposition.

The bowlers that dismissed the top 3 of the batting order most in IPL has been dominated by spinners with Ravichandran Ashwin topping the list followed by Harbhajan Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra and Sunil Narine among others.
The list is also dominated by Indian bowlers. Only Narine is the overseas bowler to appear in the top 10 for bowlers who have taken wickets of the top three batters in the batting order in IPL.
Ashwin has dismissed the top three of the opposition's batting order at least 90 times so far, while the former spinner Harbhajan held the top position for a long time with 85 wickets of the top 3 batters of the opposition.
| Player | Wickets |
| R Ashwin | 90 |
| Harbhajan Singh | 85 |
| Yuzvendra Chahal | 77 |
| Piyush Chawla | 76 |
| Amit Mishra | 73 |
| Bhuvneshwar Kumar | 68 |
| Umesh Yadav | 68 |
| Sunil Narine | 67 |
| Sandeep Sharma | 67 |
| Zaheer Khan | 64 |
The list also features some India pacers former and current as Zaheer Khan appears alongside Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma. All the bowlers in the top 10 except for the retired Zaheer and Harbhajan are likely to add to their numbers soon.
Spinners have dominated the list due to the batters taking risk inside first few overs when fielding restrictions are in play, and also the middle overs as well as the closing stages of the match, tempting the batting side to go on the attack.
Ashwin is likely to become the first bowler to dismiss the top 3 batters of the opposition more than 100 times. The likes of Chahal, Bhuvneshwar, Umesh and Sandeep are likely to catch up with the seasoned India spinner.
