The much-anticipated T20 Mumbai League 2025 is set to return with its third edition, and all eyes are now on the player auction scheduled to take place in Mumbai on Wednesday.

With around 280 cricketers up for grabs, the auction promises to be a high-stakes event ahead of the league, which will be staged at the iconic Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8.

Among the most talked-about names heading into the auction is 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, whose IPL 2025 exploits have made him a player to watch.

Joining him in the spotlight are other exciting young prospects like Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Tanush Kotian, and Musheer Khan, adding plenty of firepower to the auction pool. This year's roster reflects a strong blend of up-and-coming talent and experienced campaigners from Mumbai's domestic circuit, including the likes of Siddhesh Lad and Shams Mulani.

The auction is set to witness strategic bidding as eight teams look to build formidable squads with a mix of star power and promising youth.

Teams have already bolstered their line-ups by signing marquee icon players at a fixed fee of ₹20 lakh.

These include some of the biggest names in Mumbai cricket: Suryakumar Yadav (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East), Ajinkya Rahane (Bandra Blasters), Shreyas Iyer (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Prithvi Shaw (North Mumbai Panthers), Shivam Dube (ARCS Andheri), Shardul Thakur (Eagle Thane Strikers), Sarfaraz Khan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs), and Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals).

To maintain competitive balance and ensure grassroots representation, players in the auction are classified into three categories - Senior Players (those who have played First-Class, List A, or professional T20s), Emerging Players (those who've played for Mumbai U-19 or U-23 in the last three years), and Development Players (standout local club cricketers). The base price has been set at ₹5 lakh for Senior, ₹3 lakh for Emerging, and ₹2 lakh for Development players.

In terms of roster rules, franchises must include at least four senior players, five emerging players, and five development players in their minimum squad of 18. Each team is required to spend at least ₹80 lakh from their ₹1 crore purse.

Additionally, there's a clear focus on nurturing the next generation - teams must select at least two players born on or after September 1, 2005, and ensure one of them features in the playing XI.

With a diverse and dynamic player pool, the 2025 T20 Mumbai League auction is set to provide an exciting launchpad for future stars while keeping fans engaged ahead of another thrilling season of Mumbai's premier T20 showcase.
