World Cup: Holders India inflict 130-run defeat on South Africa

Melbourne, Feb 22: India played like world champions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday. The holders inflicted a heavy 130-run defeat on South Africa in a Pool B contest of ICC World Cup 2015.

First, Shikhar Dhawan hit a fine century and later bowlers and fielders backed the batting efforts in front of nearly 90,000 fans at the iconic ground. This was MS Dhoni and his boys' second straight win.

Last Sunday they had thrashed Pakistan by 76 runs. India scored 307/7 in 50 overs and bowled out the Proteas for 177 in 40.2 overs. This is the first time India have beaten South Africa at World Cup. They had failed in previous 3 attempts (1992, 1999, 2011).

India's next game is against United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday (February 28) in Perth.
