LLC 2024 Final Awards Presentation Ceremony: Who Said What

Kedar Jadhav (SSS), Winning Team Captain:

"I feel on top of the world right now, and I really mean it, especially since we’re in such a high-altitude place! I want to acknowledge the incredible role our support staff and coaching staff have played in this journey to the title, and I’m truly thankful for them. The audience deserved a final like this; they love a game that’s competitive rather than a one-sided contest.

"Choosing Hamid Hassan to bowl was one of the easiest decisions I had to make. His pace really gave us an edge over our opponents on these tracks. I can’t say enough about our coaching staff. Michael Bevan and his team have made all the plans, and all we needed to do was execute them. I’m grateful to have such a supportive staff around us. And let me say, the party will go long! Most of us have an early flight to catch on Thursday, which gives us another reason to stay awake and celebrate!"

Irfan Pathan (KSO), Runners-up Captain:

"I truly believe we had a chance to defend 13 runs in the Super Over; anything over 10 in a Super Over is usually good enough. It’s unfortunate for Diwesh Pathania that he couldn’t execute his yorkers when it mattered most.

"I have to give a massive shoutout to my brother, Yusuf Pathan. His innings was one of the best knocks I’ve ever witnessed in my entire career. Even though we didn’t win the trophy, I’m proud that our entire team can hold our heads high. Despite my sombre mood, I would still love to watch my brother’s knock again.

"What keeps the Pathan brothers going? It’s in our blood. My surname, Pathan, means warrior, and both of us will keep fighting—for our country or, right now, for our team—and we’ll always give our 100 percent. Personally, I enjoy doing broadcasting and commentary, but whenever I get the chance to play, I will. I’m hoping that my brother and I can play for another five years.

"I’m still amazed that retired players have their own league now. I want to thank the fans in Srinagar and everywhere else for coming out in full numbers to support us. Lastly, I’d like to congratulate the Southern Super Stars for playing outstanding cricket."

Martin Guptill (SSS) | Player of the Tournament:

"I’m honored to be named the Legend of the Tournament for my consistency with the bat throughout this edition. Scoring 339 runs is something I’m really proud of.

"I’ll definitely take home that Surat wicket because it was incredibly flat. While some of my innings were good, the one I played here in the final feels even more valuable. I have to give credit to Hamilton Masakadza for the way he played in the final and helped us reach a solid total. Overall, I’ve had an amazing time here and feel lucky to have found the middle of the bat again."

Hamilton Masakadza (SSS) | Player of the Match:

"First and foremost, I want to send my commiserations to our skipper Kedar Jadhav, who lost his father at the start of the tournament. I’m really happy that I could contribute to the team's cause. Playing well in Legends League Cricket has been great for me, and I feel the shorter boundaries have definitely helped.

"Here’s a fun stat for everyone: in all three editions of Legends League Cricket, I’ve finished on the champions' side! Being an Impact Player has become something I’ve made my own. I wasn’t a regular in the first edition, but for the last couple of years, I’ve really embraced that role. Plus, it allows me to take a rest while the younger players are out there fielding!"

Michael Bevan (SSS, Coach):

"I’m really proud of this great group we have and the solid auction we had as well. The guys did an excellent job under pressure and played well throughout the season. To be honest, I wasn’t entirely happy with the last few overs; we never thought the game was over while Yusuf Pathan was out there.

"We were ahead for the majority of the contest. We also knew that Hamilton Masakadza couldn’t bat since the Impact player can’t participate in a Super Over. We were clear on our plan and decided to send Chirag Gandhi out to the middle."

Sreevats Goswami (SSS):

"I’ll admit, at one stage we thought we should have gotten to 180, but 160 turned out to be enough since the dew didn’t come down heavily. Huge credit to Yusuf Pathan for his blitzkrieg; he definitely gave the crowd their money's worth. As for Guptill’s knock in the Super Over, I was definitely nervous.

"It reminded me of Jimmy Neesham’s tweet after the 2019 ODI World Cup final—cricket really isn’t for the faint-hearted! And while Pawan Negi’s deliveries did turn in that 19th over, Yusuf was just in such good form, clearing the boundaries with ease."

Pawan Negi (SSS):

"The 20th over was absolutely crucial in the second innings, and full credit to Chaturanga de Silva for bringing it to a tie. As for my own bowling in the 19th over against Yusuf Pathan, I was just trying to turn the ball away from him, but since he had already settled in and adjusted to the pitch, he kept finding the boundary.

"When it came to the Super Over, I was initially supposed to take strike, but when Guptill and I walked out, Shahbaz Nadeem was supposed to bowl for Odisha. Then, Irfan changed the plan and handed the ball to Pathania, so we switched our batting positions accordingly."

Hamid Hassan (SSS):

"I couldn’t believe I was going to bowl the Super Over. It takes so much energy, and I wasn’t sure how I’d manage it. I have to thank Martin Guptill for those two massive sixes—it really took the pressure off. The no ball on the first delivery was risky, and it put me under a lot of pressure, but I just tried to keep my nerves in check. Winning the Legends League Cricket title feels unreal, and I’m absolutely delighted."
