Longest run without a home Test win among unwanted Test records created by Pakistan after losing series vs Bangladesh

By MyKhel Staff

Pakistan lost their first-ever Test series against Bangladesh on Tuesday (September 3), and created a flurry of unwanted records including longest run for a team without a single home Test win.

On Day 5 of the second and final Test match in Rawalpindi, Bangladesh chased down a 185-run ticket with six wickets remaining to whitewash Pakistan 2-0. Before the start of the series, Bangladesh had never defeated Pakistan in a Test match.

The 185 runs chase by Bangladesh was their third highest successful chase in Test cricket. Earlier, they chased 215 against West Indies in St George's in 2009, and 191 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2017.

It was also the third highest target chased by a visiting team in Pakistan. Sri Lanka chased down 220 in Rawalpindi in 2000, and England chased down 208 in Lahore in 1961.

In complete contrast, Pakistan had to settle with several unwanted Test records. Have a look.

  • Pakistan were whitewashed in a Test series at home for only the second time. England defeated them 3-0 in 2022/23.
  • Pakistan have now gone ten Tests at home without a win (six defeats and four draws). This is the longest for any team except Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in the current century.
  • Pakistan have now lost a Test series at home to each of the ten oldest Full Member nations. They have become only the second team after Bangladesh to hold this unwanted record.

Pakistan were once in a strong position in the second Test Notably, Bangladesh were reduced to 26/6 in the first innings before a hundred from Litton Das helped them finish at 262 in reply to Pakistan's 274 in the first innings. Pakistan were bundled out for 172 in the second innings after a five-fer from Hasan Mahmud, and four wickets from Nahid Rana. Both the pacers were playing only in their third Test match.
