Johannesburg, Apr.8 : Incoming International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Haroon Lorgat believes that Australia's reign as cricket champions will draw to a close sooner than later.

Speaking in an interview to The Herald from his home in Cape Town, South Africa, Lorgat, who assume charge as ICC CEO in July, said: "I have always believed that these things go in cycles, and the Australians have certainly been dominating in recent years. They have had certain key players involved in that success, and when you lose players like Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist, that opens the way for other teams to catch up and perhaps the end of their cycle of domination. That can keep interest in the game."

He also said that the future of international cricket would include a revised international schedule, a stronger Zimbabwe team and improved technology for umpires.

Lorgat envisaged that the addition of Twenty20 cricket - and particularly the Indian Premier League - to the domestic and international calendar could prompt an overhaul of the Future Tours Program.

"The IPL is something that is exciting and can be used to enhance and grow the game around the globe. Cricket is unique in that we have three formats now, and that can be used to attract new fans. If we need to revisit the FTP, we will do that," he was quoted, as saying.

"If well managed, I think all three forms of the game are sustainable. It's just about finding the right balance," he added.
