Sri Lanka on Sunday (September 17) set an unwanted record in front of their home fans as they were bundled out for 50 runs against India in the Asia Cup 2023 final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah started off the Sri Lankan collapse with the dismissal of Kusal Janith Perera, who departed for a duck in the first over after a diving catch from wicketkeeper KL Rahul. Two overs later, Mohammed Siraj, the wrecker in chief joined the party.

Siraj took a five-wicket haul inside three overs, starting with four wickets in a single over, in which he removed Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva.
Nissanka was removed after a good catch at backward point by Ravindra Jadeja, while the in-form duo of Samarawickrama (LBW) and Asalanka (Caught Behind) departed for ducks in back-to-back deliveries. De Silva avoided the hattrick, but fell caught behind in the final delivery of the over.
An over later, Siraj removed the Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka with a jaffa as he clean bolwed him to become the first bowler to pick up a fifer inside 3 overs of an ODI. A few overs later, Siraj claimed his sixth wicket as he castled Kusal Mendis, who was the lone Sri Lankan batter to put up a fight with 17 runs.
At 33/7, Sri Lanka stared at registering one of the lowest totals in ODIs. But they avoided topping that list after they crossed 50 and were bowled out for that score. The current record for lowest team total in ODI still belongs to Zimbabwe, who were bowled out for 35.
