Lowest Totals in PSL History: A Look Back at the Most Shocking Batting Collapses in League History

Lowest Totals in PSL History: In a league known for explosive batting and towering sixes, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has also witnessed its fair share of shocking collapses - those moments when even the best batting line-ups simply fell apart like a house of cards.

From sun-drenched afternoons in Sharjah to electrifying nights under Lahore's floodlights, here's a look at the ten lowest team totals in PSL history - and the unforgettable tales behind them.

Top of the unwanted pile is Lahore Qalandars, who were skittled for a mere 59 runs in just 10.2 overs against Peshawar Zalmi on 12 February 2017 in Dubai. The innings, if one could call it that, evaporated in front of a stunned crowd, with a run rate of just 5.70.

It was a demolition job that left Qalandars red-faced and reeling, marking the lowest score in the tournament's history. "We just couldn't get going. It was one of those days where nothing clicked," a dejected Qalandars player had said after the game.

10 Qalandars 100 17.2 5.76 1 v Zalmi Sharjah Lost 3 Mar 2018

Second on the list is Quetta Gladiators' woeful 73 all out in 12.1 overs against Multan Sultans at Abu Dhabi on 16 June 2021. A game that began with promise ended in a thud, with the Gladiators managing a dismal run rate of 6.00. The match was over before it truly began, prompting fans to question the team's temperament under pressure.

Lahore Qalandars feature repeatedly in this forgettable gallery, underlining their struggles with consistency over the years. Their 76-run effort in 14.3 overs against Multan Sultans in March 2023 at home was yet another low point. The innings had the crowd murmuring more in disbelief than disappointment.

Then came another nightmare - 78 all out in 15.1 overs, again against Zalmi, back in February 2019 in Dubai. It was déjà vu for Lahore supporters, many of whom had seen their team crumble under the same opposition just two years prior.

Islamabad United too find themselves in this unwanted list with an 82-run innings in 15.2 overs against Karachi Kings on 1 March 2017 in Sharjah. "We didn't assess the conditions properly," the United captain remarked post-match. "It was a learning curve, albeit a tough one."

The recurring theme continues - Lahore Qalandars again, this time managing just 89 runs in 15.1 overs in Abu Dhabi, June 2021, against the ruthless Sultans. It was yet another example of Lahore's batting vulnerabilities being laid bare.

Not to be outdone, Quetta Gladiators suffered another collapse - bowled out for 90 in 16.3 overs against Zalmi in March 2017, while United again succumbed to Qalandars in February 2023, managing just 90 in 13.5 overs.

Even when they weren't bowled out, the struggles were evident. Gladiators crawled to 98/9 in 20 overs at a paltry run rate of 4.90 in March 2020. Finally, rounding out the list, Qalandars were bundled for 100 runs in 17.2 overs against Zalmi in Sharjah, 2018.

In the PSL, where explosive cricket is the norm, these low totals serve as stark reminders that the shortest format is unforgiving - and even the biggest names can have the shortest innings.
