Colombo, August 9: Wanindu Hasaranga has showcased his exceptional skills in the Lanka Premier League 2023, impressing not only his teammates but also legendary spinner and B-Love Kandy coach Mushtaq Ahmed.
As the captain of the B-Love Kandy franchise, Hasaranga has led his team to the top of the league table with six points from five matches, having won three matches so far in the LPL 2023.

Mushtaq Ahmed commented on Hasaranga's performance, stating that leg spinners are always a mystery and that Hasaranga possesses excellent variation, line, and length. He also emphasized the importance of temperament for a leg-spinner.
Furthermore, Mushtaq added that Hasaranga can execute his skills under pressure with ease. His ability to bat is an advantage that sets him apart.
"Leg spinners are always a mystery, when people are not picking you, you feel great, and it feels fun. Hasaranga has a very good variation and also his line and length are great. And third is very important which is a leg-spinner should have is the temperament," commented Mushtaq.
He added, "Hasaranga can deliver and execute his skills under pressure very nicely, so, that's making him very special he's three in one as he can bat as well which is an advantage.
Hasaranga's leadership skills have also caught the attention of his teammates. They believe that participating in the Lanka Premier League 2023 has helped groom him as well as other potential leaders for Sri Lanka cricket.
Dinesh Chandimal praised Hasaranga's outstanding captaincy and noted how he has become more patient since taking on this role. Angelo Mathews echoed this sentiment, highlighting Hasaranga's maturity and thinking levels. Mathews believes that Hasaranga could be a future captain for Sri Lanka.
Chandimal stated, "He is an outstanding skipper and has got a lot of patience after he became a skipper. Earlier as a player he was not that calm."
"You need to work on your skill to go out there and execute and then yes, the mind plays a massive part in this sport. Hasaranga is young but he is very mature. His thinking levels are at a different level and he can be a captain going forward for the Sri Lanka team," commented Mathews.
In response, Hasaranga expressed gratitude for learning from experienced players like Mathews and Chandimal. He acknowledged their expertise both as players and captains and stated that he is still learning from them.
"They are very good and friendly players you know Mathews and Chandimal. They both were captains for Sri Lanka for so long and have got a lot of experience as a player and as a captain and I think I'm still learning from them," concluded the all-rounder.
Apart from B-Love Kandy, other teams participating in the league include Colombo Strikers led by Niroshan Dickwella, Dambulla Aura captained by Kusal Mendis, Galle Titans led by Dasun Shanaka, and defending champions Jaffna Kings led by Thisara Perera - a veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder.
