LPL 2024 Auction: The Lanka Premier Premier (LPL) 2024 auction was held at the Hilton Hotel Colombo on Tuesday, May 21. As many as 420 players including 154 local players and 266 foreign players were part of the player auction list. However, only 114 of them were selected by the officials of five teams.
Sri Lanka pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana became the costliest ever buy in LPL history. He was bought by Colombo Strikers for an amount of 120,000 US dollars (Rs 1 crore approximately).

Former Sri Lankan pacer Isuru Udana also broke the bank with a USD 100,000 deal with Galle Marvels. B-Love Candy spent USD 85,000 for former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka.
Further, Afghanistan's Karim Janet became the costliest foreign buy in the LPL 2024 auction. He was bought by Dambulla Thunders at a price of USD 80,000.
IPL 2024 players also made their presence felt in the auction. While Mustafizur Rahman was already retained by Dambulla Thunders, the likes of Rilee Rossouw, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Jason Behrendorff found buyers.
IPL stars Glenn Phillips (Colombo Strikers), Mustafizur Rahman (Dambulla Thunders), Noor Ahmad (Jaffna Kings), Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga (Galle Marvels), and Kyle Mayers (B-Love Kandy) were pre-signed and retained ahead of the LPL 2024 auctions.
The five-team tournament will be staged from July 1 to 21. B-Love Kandy won the previous occasion by beating Dambulla Thunders by five wickets.
