LSG IPL 2025 Retention: List of Overseas Players released by Lucknow Super Giants

By MyKhel Staff

The Lucknow Super Giants have unveiled their retention list for the IPL 2025 auction.

The RPSG Group-owned franchise has decided to keep five key players from the previous season. However, KL Rahul, who was the team's captain, is notably absent from this list.

IPL 2025 Retention: LSG Retained Players List

Nicholas Pooran, a significant player from the West Indies, remains with Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise has retained him for a hefty Rs 21 crore. India's fast bowler Mayank Yadav will also continue with the team for Rs 11 crore, alongside spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who stays for the same amount.

In addition to these seasoned players, Lucknow Super Giants have opted to retain two uncapped Indian talents. Mohsin Khan, a left-arm pacer, and Ayush Badoni, an emerging batter from Delhi, are both set to remain with the team.

LSG Departures ahead of IPL 2025

KL Rahul's exclusion has raised eyebrows as he had led the team since 2022 and guided them to playoff appearances. Despite his leadership, the franchise and Rahul were not on the best terms, leading to his release. He will now be part of the upcoming auction.

Apart from KL Rahul, other notable Indian players like Krunal Pandya and Deepak Hooda have been released by the franchise. Krunal Pandya had occasional standout performances but was let go due to inconsistency. Deepak Hooda's stint with the team did not meet expectations.

Among foreign players, Quinton de Kock and Marcus Stoinis have not been retained. However, there is a possibility that Marcus Stoinis might return through the Right to Match (RTM) process.

The decisions made by Lucknow Super Giants reflect their strategy for building a competitive team for IPL 2025. By retaining key performers and promising talents while releasing underperforming players, they aim to strengthen their squad for future challenges.

Ashton Turner: Ashton Turner just played two matches for the Super Giants last season and scored only 21 runs. The Australian is expected not in the LSG list of retained players.

Kyle Mayers: Despite having a superb IPL 2023, Kyle Mayers had an underwhelming outing for LSG last season.

David Willey: David Willey didn't play a single game for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024 due to injury.

Naveen-Ul-Haq: Naveen-Ul-Haq was excellent for LSG last season amid their disappointing season. The Afghan bowler picked up 14 wickets in 10 matches for LSG, but was retained by the franchise.

Shamar Joseph: Shamar Joseph, who was roped in for David Willey, played just a few matches and made no such telling impact for Lucknow Super Giants.
