Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka had a visibly tense exchange with KL Rahul after the team's crushing 10-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2024.

LSG was desperately fighting for a playoff spot, but the loss drastically affected their net run rate, leaving them in a tough spot. Goenka's frustration was particularly directed towards Rahul, who managed only 29 runs off 33 balls in the crucial match, sparking rumours about a strained relationship between the two.

The post-match conversation between Goenka and Rahul, described as animated, quickly gained attention, with many speculating whether this signaled the end of Rahul's captaincy at LSG. It wasn't just the fans who noticed; internal sources hinted at a growing friction between the two.

Yet, a recent meeting in Kolkata between Goenka and Rahul seemed to suggest that their relationship might not be as fractured as believed. Goenka even referred to Rahul as "family," though uncertainty still looms over whether he will lead the side in the next season.

Krishnappa Gowtham, Rahul's teammate at LSG, shed light on what really transpired after that fateful game in Hyderabad. According to Gowtham, Goenka's disappointment was evident, but Rahul remained composed throughout the conversation. Gowtham told Crictracker, "KL, being KL, kept his calm. He didn't take sides, and was listening to everything because he needed to analyze it before explaining to Goenka what went wrong."

Gowtham emphasized that Goenka's reaction was rooted in his passion for the team, particularly after investing so much time and effort into its success. While the discussion might have appeared heated, Gowtham defended Goenka's reaction as understandable given the circumstances. "It shows the kind of passion he has for the team," Gowtham remarked.
