LSG Retention List: Which 4 Players May Lucknow Super Giants Retain Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended their IPL 2024 league stage campaign with a victory over Mumbai India, but could not avoid finishing outside the top four with just 14 points on board and a negative Net Run Rate (NRR).

After back to back playoff qualifications in their previous two seasons since making their debut in 2022, Lucknow Super Giants failed to repeat the feat for the first time due to key players having a mixed season and injury to a key member of the bowling unit.

Ahead of the 2024 IPL Auction, LSG had retained the core of the squad, and made a trade involving pacer Avesh Khan for a batter in Devdutt Padikkal. The trade definitely didn’t workout, while many players showed mixed form throughout the season, including skipper KL Rahul.

IPL 2025 auction will be a mega like LSG’s first-ever experience of an auction in 2022, when they had acquired the services of Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis via player draft.

Teams are reportedly being allowed only four retentions like the previous IPL Mega Auctions. However, there are also reports that the franchise owners have requested the BCCI to allow each team up to 8 retentions.

While there is no official confirmation on how many retentions will be allowed ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction, it is very likely that a minimum of 4 players can be retained by each team. Plus, there could also be a Right To Match (RTM) card available for every team.

If only 4 players are allowed to be retained, then LSG may not face a huge dilemma like most other teams on who to release and retain ahead of the next auction as they look to assemble a squad that could see them lift the title in the next few seasons.

Which 4 players may Lucknow Super Giants retain ahead of IPL 2025 Auction?

There are several players who LSG would like to retain, but will be forced to release many ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction which could take place before the next season anywhere between December 2024 and February 2025.

Many would have thought skipper Rahul would have been the immediate first choice retention, but after what transpired during the season when he was publicly reprimanded by the owner, that seems unlikely. However, one can’t rule out a change of heart as well.

Going by current form, Nicholas Pooran is likely to be the first retention for LSG. But who among the likes of Rahul, Krunal Pandya, Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, Mayank Yadav, Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan among others will join the West Indies star in retention?

Marcus Stoinis, who is one of the game-changers in the shortest format, is likely to be the next pick alongside Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav. So, these four player are likely to the be the players who may be retained by LSG before the next auction.

Mohsin Khan, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya and several other Indian stars may be looked at during the auction where they could also use a RTM, while many players’ time at the franchise may have ended. So, let's see the possible retention list of the Super Giants:
