Lucknow Super Giants is reportedly undecided on retaining skipper KL Rahul, but the franchise is likely to keep a hold of three players from their Indian Premier League 2024 squad ahead of IPL 2025 retention deadline on October 31, 2024.
According a report in Indian Express, the Lucknow-based side is yet to take a call on captain Rahul's retention. The report also revealed the three players that could be retained by the franchise owned by Sanjeev Goenka.

While they wait on making the retention decision on Rahul, LSG is keen on retaining the services of explosive West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, who is one of the top players in the shortest format.
LSG could settle three spots with the retention of Pooran. The Caribbean star can fill in as wicketkeeper and batter as well as comes with leadership ability should the franchise need a new skipper.
Pooran has already led the Super Giants when Rahul was used as an impact player earlier this year. He also has captaincy experience from leading teams in various franchise leagues across the world and of course the national team.
If Rahul is released, LSG has an option to buy him back using one of the three Right to Match cards at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, which is likely to be held in the last week of November.
LSG could use the RTM on players like Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Mayank Yadav. There is also an option of Ravi Bishnoi and Krunal Pandya. As per the recent report, LSG will retain only three players. There decision, however, could change in the coming days.
Many teams, including LSG could opt to retain three and use RTM on three at the auction even though they are allowed to retain a maximum of 6 players (max 5 capped and 2 uncapped).
With the price slabs set for each retention, LSG would like to head into the auction with a good portion of their Rs 120 crore purse still available. The retention of Pooran could come at a cost of Rs 18 Crore.
Then LSG's two other retentions will see them lose only Rs 8 crore in addition to Rs 18 crore, totalling to Rs 26 Crore. So, the Lucknow-based side could head into the auction with at least Rs 94 Crore for the auction.
As per the IE report, LSG may retain Pooran and two uncapped players in Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni with three players (capped) likely to be bought back at the auction. If Rahul decides to be not retained, then LSG may use RTM for Mayank Yadav, Stoinis and Bishnoi.
