LSG vs DC IPL 2024: Ricky Ponting pinpoints two Main Reasons for Delhi Capitals' Dismal IPL Run, gives update on Two Key Players

Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has pinpointed two key reasons why they have faltered in this IPL season.

Delhi Capitals are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table with just 2 points in five matches. The Capitals started with two defeats and then got a victory against Chennai Super Kings. They have suffered two more defeats at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.

Along with the injuries, DC have been guilty of leaking runs with the ball and their batting has also been below par with top names struggling to score runs. As they take on Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial match on Friday, Ponting has opened up on the key Achilles heel of their team. Ponting said they have been guilty of giving away too many runs and have failed to capitalize on their batting while chasing.

"Our best cricket has been really good, but three or four overs in almost every game has been the difference for us. We've conceded too many runs late in a couple of our bowling innings, and when we've had crucial run chases, we haven't been able to quite nail them," Ponting said in the pre-match press conference.

"We feel if we put 40 overs of our best cricket together, we can beat any team in the competition, and hopefully that's tomorrow," he added.

LSG vs DC: Kuldeep, Mukesh may return to Delhi Squad

The Australian coach also revealed that Delhi Capitals may have their two key players, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav available for the LSG clash. Both Mukesh and Kuldeep have been nursing minor injuries but the duo are likely to feature for them on Friday.

"We're hoping that they'll both be available. Both those guys are obviously first picked in our starting time, so the last couple of games we sort of haven't been able to take the part with our full-strength team. But they both trained strongly yesterday. Hopefully, we'll keep our fingers crossed and hopefully both those guys are fit for us," he concluded.
