LSG vs DC, IPL 2025: Will Mayank Yadav And Faf Du Plessis Feature in The Playing 11 Today?

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) will be hopeful of the return of their star players for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday (April 22).

DC led the points table for the first four games, having remained perfrect, but since their streak was ended by Mumbai Indians, the Capitals have lost two in three and won their only match in the period by a whisker in the super over.

Axar Patel's side's struggles in the opening department is very visible with the team trying several opening combinations after Faf Du Plessis' injury. DC has tried KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel in the opening slot alongside Jake Fraser-McGurk in Du Plessis' absence.

While Rahul, Karun and Porel have done well when given the chance, Fraser-McGurk has been a major letdown this season, making Du Plessis' absence more significant. So, DC will be hopeful of the South African's return.

Will Faf Du Plessis play for Delhi Capitals against Lucknow Super Giants today?

The Protea veteran has missed the last three matches due to an undisclosed injury. The skipper had hoped he would be available for their previous match, but Du Plessis did not feature in the defeat to Gujarat Titans last weekend.

However, there was some positive news for DC, who are looking to bounce back from the defeat to GT, as Du Plessis was seen in the nets session on the eve of the clash against LSG. DC also posted a video, hinting about Du Plessis return to the team for the match tonight.

Du Plessis is likely to come straight into the DC playing 11 if they bat first and may be among the impact player subs bench if the Capitals are bowling first in the match. Du Plessis could open along with either Abhishek Porel or Karun Nair. Rahul will retain the number three spot.

As for LSG, they started the tournament with a weak bowling unit after a quartet of their pacers, including Mayank Yadav, suffered injuries. Rishabh Pant's side, however, coped with the blow by signing Shardul Thakur as a replacement for Mohsin Khan.

Meanwhile, their bowling unit was further strengthened after the trio of Avesh Khan, Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav linked up with the squad as the tournament progressed. Avesh and Akash Deep have featured, but Mayank is yet to play for LSG this season.

Like Du Plessis, Mayank Yadav also was seen in the nets on the eve of the match. Having received clearance from BCCI Centre of Excellence, Mayank linked up with the squad and in fact was also named among the impact substitutes bench for LSG's last match.

So, there is every chance that the speedster will make the playing 11 tonight. But after the performance against Rajasthan Royals last week Avesh and Prince Yadav will give LSG some selection headaches.

Avesh and Prince are likely to retain their spots, leaving only Shardul Thakur's spot in the eleven in danger. The all-round option is something that would tempt LSG to retain Thakur. So, it would be interesting to see how LSG will slot in Mayank in the playing 11.
